The camp-every-month-in-2025 challenge continued this March in our local hills near Lochinver and Inchnadamph. This one was no great hardship, as the weather was absolutely brilliant last week. We were still busy with other life stuff*, but managed to get out for a quick equinox camp near Breabag, a quiet Corbett near Ben More Assynt.
Full trip notes are on the blog. Here are my top 3 moments:
1. A sunrise hike to the summit, an ideal way to start the first full day of astronomical spring.
2. Celebratory Gin & Tonics in the sun. Mark even brought a flask of ice!
And just how cute is that Stanley Flask? It comes with four little shot glasses, too, a so-called “Stanley Adventure Pre-Party Shot Glasses Set + Hip Flask**”. We love it. (**That’s an Amazon affiliate link, FYI. So I might get a kickback if you buy something after clicking that - thanks!)
3. The camp itself, with all its trappings - beautiful views, delicious views, happy hounds, and a bit of comedy.
(We inadvertently camped on an angle and woke up halfway down the tent, thus realizing just how huge the new tent is!)
About the cornbread…
It’s seriously delicious and so easy to make. I made this cornbread with masa harina but you could also use cornmeal or polenta. The recipe includes fresh sweetcorn and pickled chillies, optional, but I think it makes it next level. Delicious served alongside sweet potato and black bean chilli! Don’t forget your garnishes: fresh lime, cheese, chillies, mmmmm.

Road traffic and bookings are showing signs that the holiday season is starting, and our holiday cottage is filling up nicely! After this week, we’re almost full all summer (If you want a last minute trip this week for a deal, fill in our contact form!) Check out this lovely review from our last guests - this made my day!
In other news, I’m quietly working away at my other business, Writer’s Residence. I know it has nothing to do with the outdoors, but I’m just going to keep plugging it here, because I can!
What is Writer’s Residence, again? It’s a SaaS designed specifically for writers that lets them build a great website. I’m about to embark on a dreaded marketing strategy that involves approaching “micro-influencers” for collabs (dreaded because I’m an introvert and reaching out to people is my idea of hell, but I think it’s necessary here for the business to grow!). I’ll also be experimenting with webinars, including evergreen stuff like tips for creating a writing portfolio, how writers can use ChatGPT for good, marketing tips, etc.
If you or anyone you know are interested in some kind of collab, do reach out to me. Our customers love the product, it just needs to reach more people! And SEO in this niche is a fool’s game, unless you have oodles of time and cash, which I don’t have.
Alternatively, you can also help by subscribing to
, leaving a review on Trustpilot, becoming a Writer’s Residence affiliate (40% commissions!), share WR with your friends and any writers you know, or something else super helpful that I haven’t thought of yet!Coming soon… ESW is getting a rebrand!
And I can’t wait to share it with you. Watch this space!
